This carbon powerbank from Nitecore has a 10000mAh capacity and weighs just 150 grams. On the body you'll find two ports - USB-A and USB-C. It includes a physical button to display the charge indicator with 3 LEDs or switch to low current charging.
The maximum charging speed of the powerbank is 18W, and it can reach full charge in over two hours. With IPX5 specification, it offers basic water protection. If you forget it somewhere in the rain or drop it in water, it may not make it.
🚵 Is it suitable for bikepacking?
On paper it's doing great in terms of weight/capacity. The charging speed is at a decent level. It's definitely a shame that it can only report the charge status with three LEDs, harder to plan then when I don't know exactly how much is in the powerbank. Or it's hard to calculate how much capacity any device eats up.
The IPX5 protection is sufficient in that it can withstand some contact with water, but if you drop it in water, it may not survive and such accidents do happen.
What I consider to be the biggest problem is that I have doubts about the mechanical durability of the whole product. I bought two - one died on Moravia Divide race and the other one works, but you can see a crack in one part on both sides. I know it is very popular among hikers, but there are also a certain number of people for whom it has failed.
The one that died on me I have at least successfully claimed warraty and got my money back. I recommend the article how to choose a powerbank for bikepacking here on the web.
🕵️ Summary
On paper it has great numbers but it didn't work too well for me on the bike. Maybe it's the shocks on the MTB that are to blame, as I carried it in my top tube bag. I prefer the Klarus K5 powerbank, which has similar specs and price - plus it adds better water resistance and a digital charge indicator.
And while we're on the subject of price - just because it's so high, I would expect much better endurance.
You can get the powerbank on Amazon.
